Aug 03, 2016· I'm not a machinist but I do know that a CAD drawing alone is not enough to make a knife with CNC. Tool selection, feed rates, paths, etc are needed to machine a knife. However any custom maker worth his salt could use a CAD drawing as a blueprint to make knife.

If milled you would have to clean up the bevels with sanding/ grinding. If you want me to sand I'll just make then,sell you *your designed* knife but my logo will have to appear.

Apr 04, 2017· I have used my milling machine to drill liners and pivot holes in some of my folders, but the blades are all done freehand on the belt grinder. I think that unless you are doing multiples of one pattern the tooling set up involved in the grinding of bevels on the mill would just be too time comsuming for a one knife project.

Feb 22, 2018· Like a pocket knife, there is a HUGE variance in how each tool will perform. You'd think this would be easier. I see now that I need to pick out a couple tool brands and stick to them. Lake Shore Carbide keeps coming up as recommended with several of the other CNC knife guys. I'll give those guys a try and then see what other brands will work.
And, moreover, I think you can make products more accurately and consistently with a CNC. I still do all sorts of things by hand, like the blade grinding, embellishment, and the fit and finish. But if I needed to manually mill the integral frame locks, I'd be there for a week just milling one frame.
