Thanks for the review. Not all tools work out for all folks. I consider this jig one of my best tools. The issues you point out are there. I have just learned to work thru them. I use it constantly and are able to get a razor sharp edge on my plane blades quickly. I use wet dry emery paper on a flat steel plate.

Jul 01, 2020· I have ditched the Veritas jig (blade holder) for now and used an old chisel to set the grinding stand to approx 25 then manually ground the blade slowly back to 25. I then used a 300 stone, 800 stone, 1000, 6000 and finally 8000 to bring it back to a secondary bevel of 30 degrees.

While you apparently wouldn't mind the use the grinder platform in establishing this bevel, if I were to use a Veritas jig, for effectively the same purpose, it would be a travesty.
