In this work extraction of copper and iron from a reverberatory furnace slag was studied. A two-step extraction procedure was followed. The first step was roasting of the slag in the presence of sulphuric acid at temperatures between 150 and 800 o C. The second step was leaching of the resulting calcine with distilled water. The maximum copper extraction of about 94% was achieved.

We rely on copper for power, lighting, heating, communications, water supply and transport. Copper makes our homes, schools and businesses efficient, comfortable and decorative and it lasts for many years. In this e-source, we'll look at the ways of extracting copper from the ground. Copper has a remarkable combination of properties.

Extracting copper from other ores. Copper can be extracted from non-sulphide ores by a different process involving three separate stages: Reaction of the ore (over quite a long time and on a huge scale) with a dilute acid such as dilute sulphuric acid to produce a very dilute copper(II) sulphate solution.

Apr 25, 2019· In this chapter we will discuss about Extraction of Copper The chief and important ore of copper from which the metal is most isolated is copper pyrites (CuFeS2). Froth floatation process is used ...

Abstract. In the production of copper from sulfide ore, slag accumulates at the processing plant. In the present work, the phase transformations that occur in such slag during its reduction by the gasification products of carbon at 1100 and 1200°C are investigated.

A hydrometallurgical process for treating slag material, especially copper smelter slag material, comprises vigorously mixing the slag material with about one part by weight of sulfuric acid and about one part by weight of water for each part by weight of the slag material, and allowing the resulting mixture to react to produce a dry, solid material, containing the metal values of the slag in ...

Abstract: This study focuses on the recovery of copper and cobalt from copper slags obtained from Kure district of Kastamonu city, which is in the north of Turkey, and removal of Se, Te, Sb and As from mixture of copper slag and copper concentrate has been conducted.

higher absorption capacity than air-cooled copper slag. The granulated copper slag is made up of regularly shaped angular particles, mostly between 4.75 and 0.075 mm3. Slags produced during pyrometallurgical processes have been traditionally considered as a waste3. In the case of copper extraction processes, it has been estimated that for

C is a sectioned crucible after smelting, which illustrates the sharp copper-slag separation possible under favorable conditions. Copper Refining. The copper recovered from smelting was contaminated with sulfur and iron and had a composition approximately the same as blister copper (table 7, .

the copper matte. Though, the slag can be easily separated from the desired product. Smelting is an exothermic reaction between copper pyrite ore, oxygen of air and fluxes (such as silica and limestone) at 1200 °C (above the melting point of copper, but below that of the iron and silica) to form a liquid called "copper .

Abstract: Copper smelter slag and copper smelter slag flotation tailings were leached using sulphuric acid solutions, without or with the addition of either ferric sulphate or hydrogen peroxide. Copper extraction from the slag was typically found to be twice as high as that from the slag flotation tailings.

Oct 02, 2019· Copper slag is a by-product created during the copper smelting and refining process. As refineries draw metal out of copper ore, they produce a large volume of non-metallic dust, soot, and rock. Collectively, these materials make up slag, which can be used .

possible option. The copper slag contains a high content of silica and iron. The solution final pH is the most important factor affecting the removal of iron and silica from the leach solution and the overall metal recovery. Fe removal from the leaching of copper slag is done by the formation of a metal hydroxide.

Blocks of blister copper are used as anodes and thin sheets of pure copper act as cathodes. The cathode plates are coated with graphite in order to remove depositing copper. The electrolyte is copper sulphate (CuSO4) mixed with a little amount of H2SO4 to increase the electrical conductivity.

Copper occurs both in native state as well as in combined state. The chief ore of copper are: Copper Pyrite (CuFeS2) Cuprite (Cu2O) Cupper Glance (Cu2S) Malachite [CuCO3.Cu(OH) 2] Extraction of copper: Copper is extracted from is chief ore, copper pyrite. The various steps involved in the extractions are: a. Crushing and concentration: The [.]

Copper extraction refers to the methods used to obtain copper from its ores. The conversion of copper consists of a series of physical and electrochemical processes. Methods have evolved and vary with country depending on the ore source, local environmental regulations, and other factors.

to induce the grain growth of copper matte and magnetite by modifying the molten copper slag. As a result, it is effective to improve recovery and separation of copper and iron from the copper slag; meanwhile, the latent heat energy of the molten slag was effectively utilized and .

Copper slag is a by-product of copper extraction by smelting.During smelting, impurities become slag which floats on the molten metal. Slag that is quenched in water produces angular granules which are disposed of as waste or utilized as discussed below.

Copper metal was extracted from a copper containing slag using the same optimized procedure for extracting copper metal from Cu concentrate. The starting amount of slag was 50 g. After the optimized dissolution and electro-deposition procedure was performed, 1.3 g of metallic material was extracted from the slag.
