Sep 01, 2007· Similkameen River Studies. We conducted spatially extensive surveys and dredging experiments in the Similkameen River in Okanogan County, Washington. The Similkameen River originates in British Columbia, Canada and is a 225-km-long tributary to the Okanogan River that flows into the Columbia River.

On the grounds that Coho and other fish can now reach the section of the river above the dam, the new permanent rule would change the authorized work times from July 16 — February 28 to August 1 — 31. Another change involves the work times allowed on the section of the Similkameen River between Enloe Dam and Palmer Creek in Okanogan County.

The Similkameen River is located in North Central Washington (Figure 1). During the public comment period on the Similkameen River Arsenic TMDL (Peterschmidt and Edmond, 2004), concerns were raised by the community and the Colville Confederated Tribe regarding the potential impact of small-scale gold dredging on arsenic concentrations in the river.
